Joint Health Program

Spaulding Outpatient Rehabilitation

A Comprehensive Therapy Program to Address Joint Health

Spaulding Outpatient Rehabilitation of Kent Hospital’s Joint Health program addresses an individual’s joint pain with a specifically designed physical therapy plan to enhance joint health, while decreasing pain and maximizing functional abilities.  Each patient receives a comprehensive evaluation of their condition and an individualized plan of care from a physical therapist.

The therapist will work with the referring physician and the orthopedic department to assist with avoiding or delaying any unnecessary procedures. The care plan may include in-person care, virtual telehealth visits, or a combination of both to meet individual needs and comfort levels. Therapists provide education and instruction on therapeutic exercise programs along with handouts, pictures, and videos.

Research has shown therapy to be a successful first step in reducing sudden or chronic joint pain.  With Spaulding, participants receive exceptional care and have the ability to be easily connected with a vast network of specialists and experts from across the region.

Personalized Treatment Plans

The ultimate goal of our Joint Health Program is to help you prevent or delay surgery. Research has shown that, in many cases, a formal course of therapy for joint-related conditions can help to prevent or significantly delay expensive and painful surgical interventions.

A 2013 study showed that 75% of clients with a full tear in their rotator cuff avoided surgery with physical therapy.

Your cost to receive care is carefully taken into consideration when planning your therapy experience. We will work with you to create a treatment schedule that takes into account your cost for each visit to make sure you are comfortable with attending to maximize your success.

A 2013 study showed that getting physical therapy prior to surgery helped avoid that surgery in over 60% of the patients.

Medbridge®: A Custom at Home Exercise Programing

We utilize an online program called Medbridge® to help create custom home exercise programs and provide patient education materials. These exercises and educational handouts are specific to each individual patient, not pre-made or generalized in nature. Medbridge ® allows you to access pictures and videos of each exercise on your computer, laptop, tablet, phone, or through the MedbridgeGO ® app.

Your therapist can easily progress those exercises and adjust your program based on your response to care. These exercises can be translated into other languages also, such as Spanish. Our therapists can also see if you are accessing and performing your exercises as prescribed for maximal benefits.
