Kathleen M. Phillips, RNP, has been a Kent Hospitalist since 2004. Her previous experience includes work in a variety of settings, including adult medicine, cardiology, and women’s health. She piloted a primary health care project in several of Rhode Island’s homeless shelters under the auspices of the federal Health Care for the Homeless program.
As adjunct clinical professor at the University of Rhode Island she precepts graduate nurses who are learning to care for patients as advanced practice nurse practitioners.
An important thrust of health care reform involves transforming the health care system to become patient- and family-centered rather than doctor- or hospital-centered. Presently, Ms. Phillips is developing a project at the George Washington University for the study of how to best engage patients in their own health care and assist them to become part of the health care planning process.
"As a hospital-based nurse practitioner I am concerned with ensuring a safe and seamless transition of patients from the hospital back into their homes."
