Kent Hospital Golf Tournament Raises Thousands for Portable Diagnostic Ultrasound Unit
The Kent Hospital Auxiliary is proud to announce its 15th Annual Golf Tournament held recently, raised $45,000 for Kent Hospital. The event which hosted 130 golfers was held at Potowomut Golf Club in Warwick. The money raised will help fund the purchase of a portable ultrasound unit, which will be used as a diagnostic tool for identifying questionable breast lesions or abnormalities. Details  
 
Kent Cardiac Arrhythmia Service Performs First Catheter Ablation
Kent Hospital is proud to announce it has recently performed its first catheter ablation procedure.This procedure is used to treat abnormal rapid heart rates (cardiac arrhythmias). Catheter ablation for cardiac arrhythmias involves a minimally invasive approach that utilizes catheters temporarily placed in veins in the leg to gain access to the heart. Details

Kent Hospital's Keeping It Green program is pleased to partner with Metech Recycling to offer the second annual Electronics Recycling Collection Event, to be held Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Kent Hospital. This free event is open to the community and takes place from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.Bring any personally owned electronic device or devices to Kent Hospital on the day of the event and Metech Recycling will recycle the items responsibly and protect your identity. Kent's Resident Physicians and First Fellow Honored
Kent Hospital is pleased to announce the graduation of its second class of residents who have completed the Emergency Medicine and Family Medicine Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs, as well as the first graduate of Kent's Undersea & Hyperbaric Medicine Fellowship. Kent Hospital Auxiliary to Host Annual Golf Tournament
  The Kent Hospital Auxiliary is proud to announce its 15th Annual Golf Tournament and dinner to be held at Potowomut Golf Club in Warwick. The tournament will take place Monday, July 9, 2012 and will help fundthe purchase of a SonoSite portable ultrasound unit. This unit will be used as a diagnostic tool for identifying questionable breast lesions or abnormalities. Diagnostic ultrasound is noninvasive and offers real-time imaging allowing for a more accurate diagnosis. Details

Kent Hospital is enhancing the scope of service for its Cardiology Department with the addition of a cardiac arrhythmia service. This service will strengthen Kent's existing pacemaker service while offering for the first time, defibrillator implantation, cardiac resynchronization therapy, and consultative services for advance management of cardiac arrhythmias. Hyperbaric Medicine Center Provides Unique Life Saving Care for Newborn
Kent Hospital's Wound Recovery and Hyperbaric Medicine Center, the only 24-hour hyperbaric center in the region, recently provided hyperbaric oxygen treatment to an 11-day-old newborn boy and his mother. This is the first time Kent has treated a newborn of such a young age with hyperbaric oxygen. Details

The event will take place at the Kent Hospital Outpatient Rehabilitation facility, 1351 South County Trail, building 2, suite 200, in East Greenwich. STAR Program Certification, uniquely qualifies facilities to offer premium oncology rehabilitation services to cancer survivors who suffer from debilitating side effects, caused by treatments. Girl Scouts 100th Anniversary
Kent Hospital is proud to have collaborated with the Girl Scouts of Rhode Island to celebrate their 100th Anniversary on March 12, 2012. Girl Scouts of Rhode Island declared 2012 as "The Year of the Girl" and recognized any baby girl born on March 12, by inviting them to become members of "Troop 2012". Kent Hospital delivered four girls on the anniversary, who will now have their first year Daisy membership fee paid for by the Girl Scouts. Details

Kent and VNA Welcome New Medical Director of Palliative Care and Hospice
Warwick, RI… Kent Hospital and the VNA of Care New England are pleased to welcome Kate M. Lally, MD, FACP, to Affinity Physicians as a palliative care physician. Dr. Lally will also serve as medical director of palliative care for Kent Hospital and medical director for hospice care at the VNA of Care New England. Dr. Lally comes to Kent Hospital and the VNA, from Philadelphia, PA, where she served as associate medical director at Penn Hospice at Rittenhouse. Kent Congratulates Dr. Bruce Koplan on Cutting Edge Treatment
Kent Hospital congratulates Bruce A. Koplan MD, MPH, FACC, on being the first to implant a new subcutaneous heart device in patients at risk of cardiac arrest. Care New England Joins National Initiative to Help Health Care Providers Honor Patients' Wishes for End of Life Care
Care New England Health System (the parent company of Butler, Kent and Women & Infants hospitals, the VNA of Care New England, and the Care New England Wellness Center) has joined with five other pioneering organizations to support a new effort by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) to better prepare health care providers to receive and respect patients' wishes about end-of-life care.The initiative is a critical companion to The Conversation Project, which launched nationwide last month. Four RI Hospitals to Receive Additional $7.1 Million in Medicare Payments
To help ensure patients have access to quality health care services at RI hospitals, as well as support sustainable sources of jobs in the state, U.S. Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse and Representatives James Langevin and David Cicilline joined hospital executives and representatives from Kent, Newport, South County, and Westerly Hospitals to announce an additional $7.1 million in Medicare payments as a result of a new regulation issued by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
