Resident Physicians and Fellow Honored at Graduation Ceremony

Kent Hospital is pleased to announce the graduation of its third class of residents who have completed the Emergency Medicine and Family Medicine Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs, as well as the second graduate of Kent's Undersea & Hyperbaric Medicine Fellowship. The ceremony took place Thursday, June 13, 2013 and also recognized Kent Hospital's honorary award recipients.

"To see our third class of residents and second fellow graduate today is a great honor and Kent Hospital is extremely pleased with the commitment that this group of individuals has given over the last several years," said Sandra Coletta, COO Care New England, president and CEO of Kent Hospital. "They have played a critical role in helping Kent Hospital be a healthcare facility that provides the best possible quality care to the community. I thank them for their hard work and dedication to our community."

"It is a huge accomplishment to see this group of physicians graduate today, knowing we have provided them with great training and knowledge as they begin their careers outside of Kent Hospital," said Joseph Spinale, DO, FACC, chief medical officer and director of medical education at Kent. "Graduate Medical Education here at Kent has grown tremendously over the last several years, especially with the addition of our Undersea & Hyperbaric Medicine Fellowship and Internal Medicine Residency program. We take much pride providing the foundation to these physicians, for what will hopefully be long, successful careers in medicine."

The graduates, who comprise the third graduating class include: Brian Anderson, DO; Kirk Campbell, DO; Jill Donofrio, DO; Stephen Kroh, DO; Mark Petrarca, DO; Jordan Wagner, DO; Sarah Whyte, DO; Nicholas Nikolopoulos, DO; Cary Vachon, DO;and Christopher Mozdzanowski, DO.

Brian Anderson, DO, originally from Murfreesboro, TN, graduating from Kent Hospital's emergency medicine program, will be moving to Jacksonville Florida to join St. Vincent's Medical Center as an attending emergency medicine physician. Kirk Campbell, DO, originally from Washington, PA, graduating from Kent Hospital's emergency medicine residency program, will be moving to Lincolnton, North Carolina to join Carolina Medical Center as an attending emergency medicine physician. Jill Donofrio, DO, MPH, originally from Riverside, CA, graduating from Kent Hospital's emergency medicine residency program, will be moving to Minneapolis, MN, to join a large independent physician group, working in a level two trauma center. Stephen Kroh, DO originally from Tappahannock, VA, graduating from Kent Hospital's emergency medicine residency program, will be moving to Lincolnton, North Carolina to join Carolina Medical Center as an attending emergency medicine physician. Mark Petrarca, DO, chief emergency medicine resident, originally from East Lyme, CT, graduating from Kent Hospital's emergency medicine residency program, will be moving to Manchester, NH, to join Catholic Medical Center as an attending emergency medicine physician. Jordan Wagner, DO, chief emergency medicine resident, originally from Melville, NY, graduating from Kent Hospital's emergency medicine residency program, will be moving to Boston, MA, to join Cambridge Health Alliance- Harvard affiliated hospitals, as an attending emergency medicine physician. Sarah Whyte, DO originally from, Wilmington, IL and Louisburgh Co. Mayo, Ireland, graduating from Kent Hospital's emergency medicine residency program, will be moving to Kankakee, IL, to join Riverside Medical Center as an attending emergency medicine physician. Nicholas Nikolopoulos, DO originally from Dracut, MA, graduating from Kent Hospital's family medicine residency program, will stay local to join Southcoast Physicians Group at their Southcoast Family MediCenter in Newport, RI, as a primary care physician. Cary Vachon, DO, chief family medicine resident, originally from Guilderland, NY, graduating from Kent Hospital's family medicine residency program, will move to Schenectady, NY, to join his father as a primary care physician at CapitalCare Family Practice Guilderland.

Christopher Mozdzanowski, DO, originally from Feeding Hills, MA, is Kent Hospital's second graduate of the Undersea & Hyperbaric Medicine Fellowship and will be joining Northeast Emergency Medicine Specialists at Johnson Memorial Medical Center in Stafford Springs, CT.

Receiving Kent Hospital honorary awards are: Alfonso Cardenas, MD, Emergency Medicine Attending Physician of the Year Award; Cary I. Vachon, DO, chief family medicine resident, Family Medicine Leadership Award; Mark Andreozzi, DO, Family Medicine Attending Physician of the Year Award; Steven Tepper, DO, Internal Medicine Faculty of the Year Award; and Nicholas Nikolopoulos, DO, the Daniel J. Magiera, DO Book Award.

Kent Hospital is also welcoming incoming interns and residents to their respective GME program. Emergency Medicine interns include: Alyssa Bennett, DO, from Binghamton, NY, New York College of Osteopathic Medicine graduate; Ashley Lauria, DO, from Grafton, MA, Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine graduate; Kelly DiFabio, DO, from Havertown, PA, Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine graduate; Brian Lehnhof, DO, from Redlands, CA, Midwestern University Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine graduate; Justin Valiquet, DO, from Acton, MA, University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine graduate; Daniel Ackil, DO, from Canton, MA, University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine graduate; Zuhair Qureshi, DO, Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine graduate; Nina Kohli, DO, from Buffalo, NY, University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine graduate.

Incoming Family Medicine interns and residents include: Justin Etter, DO, from Norton, MA, University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine graduate; Jonathan Andersen, DO, from Sudbury, MA, West Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine graduate; Mark Oien, DO, from Marion, MA, University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine graduate; and Amanda Beretta, DO, from Indian Springs Village, Alabama, Nova Southeastern College of Osteopathic Medicine graduate, comes to Kent Hospital as a program year two resident.

Those entering Kent Hospital's Internal Medicine Program include: Mark Salmon, DO, from North Smithfield, RI, Nova Southeastern College of Osteopathic Medicine graduate; Colin Woodard, DO, from Cleveland, TN, University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine graduate; and Desirae Budi, DO, from Appleton, WI, A.T. Still University School of Osteopathic Medicine Arizona graduate.

Kent Hospital is a major teaching affiliate of the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine. Graduate Medical Education at Kent started in 2008 and currently has 43 residents enrolled. Kent Hospital is proud to provide physician residents from across the country with the clinical expertise they will need to carry on their careers in medicine.
