Kent Hospital Physicians, Spinale and Zabbo, Recognized for Dedicated Work in Field of Medicine

January 3, 2013

Kent Hospital congratulates Joseph Spinale, MD, DO, FACC, FASNC, chief medical officer at Kent Hospital, for being recognized as a Certified Physician Executive by the Certifying Commission in Medical Management (CCMM). The CCMM recently awarded Dr. Spinale the status of Certified Physician Executive for educational achievements, demonstrated stature as a physician and experience in the field of medical management.

The CPE designation indicates that a physician has achieved superior levels of professional excellence and management education, while also demonstrating effective knowledge and leadership skills. The Certifying Commission in Medical Management currently lists more than 1000 Certified Physician Executives. The Certifying Commission in Medical Management is chartered by the American College of Physician Executives (ACPE) to establish and maintain the high standards required for physician executive certification. The ACPE is the nation's largest organization of physicians in health care leadership.

Dr. Spinale has worked at Kent Hospital since 1997 and was appointed chief medical officer in September, 2012. Dr. Spinale also serves as director of medical education at Kent and is regional assistant dean for the College of Osteopathic Medicine at The University of New England.

Kent Hospital is also proud to recognize Christopher P. Zabbo, DO, FACEP, FAAEM, for his recent authored publication in Emergency Medicine Clinics of North America. Dr. Zabbo's article was titled, Trauma in Pregnancy and highlighted the emergency treatment of pregnant patients who sustain trauma and the required knowledge of the fundamental aspects of trauma management. The article appeared in a journal published by Elsevier, a global provider of health and science information.

The article was co-authored by Ali S. Raja, MD, MBA, MPH, of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. The article featured information on maternal cardiopulmonary arrest, perimortem cesarean sections and the overall traumatic complications of pregnancy.

Dr. Zabbo is an emergency medicine physician and has worked at Kent Hospital since 2008. He is also the program director for the Emergency Medicine Residency Program at Kent Hospital, which is affiliated with The University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine.
