Kent Hospital Honors Exceptional Volunteers

Kent Hospital honored more than 200 hospital volunteers at the Take Me Out To The Ball Game Volunteer Recognition Brunch, held at Quidnessett Country Club in North Kingstown, RI on June 25, 2013. The awards celebration recognized the many hours of service donated by Kent’s volunteers and this year’s service award winners.

“Volunteers are such an important part of Kent hospital and truly enhance the daily lives of our patients, visitors and staff,” said Sandra Coletta, COO Care New England, president and CEO of Kent Hospital. “These volunteers come to our hospital everyday, dedicating countless hours of their personal time to our community. For that, Kent Hospital is extremely grateful for their hard work and dedication.”

Kent Hospital’s active volunteers donated more than 42,000 hours of service for the year. The following volunteers were selected as 2012-2013 award recipients:

Kent Hospital Youth Service Award, Jason Taylor, Rumford, Stock Room volunteer; Kent Hospital Bright Idea Award, Lois Dexter, North Kingstown, Foundation volunteer; Kent Hospital Make It Happen Award, James Ryan, East Greenwich, Emergency Departmentvolunteer; Kent Hospital Unsung Hero Award, Jean Woodcock, Warwick, Gift Shop, Administration and Education Departmentvolunteer; Kent Hospital Community Partner Award, Centreville Bank, West Warwick, Corporate Headquarters; Kent Hospital Hannah Hayes Volunteer of the Year Award, Carole Marsocci, Coventry, Outpatient Surgeryvolunteer.

Rita Selby and Ashley Rose Petronelli were the winners of the “Take Me Out To The Ball Game” raffle. They walked away with a Red Sox and Pawtucket Red Sox package from the Pawtucket Red Sox and Centreville Bank.

Kent Hospital’s long history of volunteerism began in 1958 when just 17 volunteers, known as “candy stripers,” joined the hospital. Today, Kent’s volunteer program has over 500 volunteers who remain integral in helping the hospital serve the community.
