Kent Hospital Announces Clinical Leadership Promotions
Kent Hospital is pleased to announce Jonathan Gates, MD, of South Kingstown, has been elected chief of medicine at Kent Hospital and John A. Gelzhiser, MD, of East Greenwich, has been named associate director of Kent’s Inpatient Medical Group. Dr. Gates served as the assistant director of Kent’s Inpatient Medical Group since 2005. Dr. Gelzhiser is a hospitalist at Kent Hospital and has been on staff since 2007. Both are part of the Affinity Physicians, LLC Medical Group.

“Both Dr. Gates and Dr. Gelzhiser provide Kent Hospital and their patients with exceptional expertise and clinical leadership,” said Michael Dacey, MD, senior vice president and chief medical officer at Kent Hospital. “In these new roles, their professionalism, knowledge and skill will further enhance patient care and the hospital’s ongoing commitment to the community.”

Dr. Gates currently serves as the assistant program director of the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine’s affiliated internal medicine residency at Kent Hospital and chair of the Kent Hospital Continuing Medical Education Committee. Dr. Gates also serves as chair of the Kent Hospital Institutional Review Board since 2010, overseeing clinical research. He was awarded the inaugural Kent Hospital’s physician of the year for 2009-2010.

Dr. Gelzhiser was named a top hospitalist in Rhode Island Monthly’s Top Doctors issue in 2011. Gelzhiser also works for the internal medicine consult service at Women and Infants Hospital. Since 2007, Dr. Gelzhiser has supervised residents and medical students rotating in Kent Hospital’s internal medicine service. He has also served as chair of the Pharmacy and Therapeutic Committee at Kent Hospital since 2010.
