Warwick, RI…Kent Hospital will host a press conference, Monday, April 16 at 2 p.m. in the Doctors' Auditorium to address a recent trend in drug overdoses seen at the hospital. Kent's CEO, Sandra Coletta and Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Michael Dacey, Jr., will be joined by Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian; Craig Stenning, director, R.I. Department of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals, local law enforcement and a physician specializing in treating drug dependency and addiction.
Early in 2012 there has already been a marked increase in cases over 2011 totals seen at the hospital. Kent has seen a substantial increase in out-of-hospital cardiac arrests associated with drug use in recent months, with the majority of the cases being in their late teens or early 20's. This is an alarming trend associated with prescription drugs, heroin and new types of drugs of abuse. Kent Hospital is hosting this press conference in an attempt to help educate the community at large about the risks associated with drug use and the alarming increase in treated cases of late.
