The Internal Medicine Residency Program (IMRP) at Kent Hospital is approved by the American Osteopathic Association. Affiliated with the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, it is the only osteopathic Internal Medicine residency program in Rhode Island.

The residency program trains 3 residents per year in a PGY1-3 format. Successful completion of the IMRP leads to eligibility for Board Certification in Internal Medicine through the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine (AOBIM).

A community hospital based program, the mission of the Internal Medicine Residency Program is to train Internal Medicine physicians to be competent and capable of working in a variety of clinical settings. Kent Hospital is the second largest hospital in the state and has the community hospital feel with the complexity and volume of patients you would find in many cities. Internal Medicine residents will rotate through several specialties with a focus on general internal medicine. This will be done through both inpatient and outpatient experiences. The residents will work closely with both hospital and community based physicians. This experience will give the resident a unique look at all aspects of today’s world of internal medicine which will serve them well as a community based Internist or as a strong base for further subspecialty if they so desire.
