Yumi Aikawa
Yumi Aikawa, DO, MPH

Yumi earned her medical degree at Western University of Health Sciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific in Pomona, CA. Her professional interests include osteopathic manipulative medicine, preventative care, strong patient-provider relationships, and improving health disparities among the underserved, including the LGBT population. She is a graduate of Smith College, and holds a Master of Public Health degree from Brown University. Yumi is a passionate cyclist and an outdoor enthusiast. She also loves indie folk music, and spends most of her free time playing with her infant twins. She also enjoys spending time with her Rhodesian ridgeback and her partner.

She chose Kent based on a wonderful experience she had while rotation through the program, and the fun, loving, and motivated residents and staff she met. Yumi was especially impressed by the program's commitment to the osteopathic philosophy. She is also excited to spend some time back in the old stomping ground of New England after having spent over a decade on the west coast.

Kara Kopacweski
Kara Kopacweski, DO

Kara earned her medical degree from Kansas City University College of Osteopathic Medicine. She attended Stonehill College for undergraduate, earning a degree in biology. In her free time she enjoys being with family and friends, watching hockey, reading, knitting, and trying out new recipes.

When asked why she chose Kent, she said "I knew I wanted to come back close to home and was hoping to find a program that was a good fit for me. When I rotated at Kent as a 4th year student, I knew I had found where I wanted to be. The family practice clinic at Thundermist, the faculty, staff, and residents were all great to work with and I could see that the training the residents get here is excellent." She also said the best part about living in Rhode Island is "Being back home near family, friends, Portuguese food, and coffee milk."

Chris Lonegan
Chris Lonegan, DO

Chris earned his medical degree from the University of New England, College of Osteopathic Medicine. For his undergraduate studies he attended Saint Lawrence University where he majored in biology. Between his schooling, Chris owned a painting business, traveled throughout South America, and taught skiing in Lake Tahoe. His clinical and research interests include osteopathic manipulative medicine, sports medicine, and preventative medicine. In his free time he enjoys surfing, skiing, soccer and spending time with friends and family.
