Biography
Chester M. Hedgepeth lll, MD, PhD, serves as executive chief of cardiology of Care New England. Dr. Hedgepeth also serves as a physician in the cardiovascular division and arrhythmia service at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and is an instructor of medicine at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Hedgepeth obtained his undergraduate science degree as a member of the Meyerhoff Scholars Program at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. He received his combined medical doctorate and doctorate of philosophy from the University of Pennsylvania Medical School. Dr. Hedgepeth’s research was completed in the Howard Hughes Medical Institute where he worked to define key signaling components responsible for dorsal-ventral patterning in embryogenesis.
His internship and residency in internal medicine were performed at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and his cardiovascular training was completed in the combined Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Massachusetts General Hospital Fellowship Program. He also completed fellowships in cardiac electrophysiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital where he remains on staff. After completing medical training, Dr. Hedgepeth worked as director of nuclear cardiology and as a clinical electrophysiologist for Charles River Medical Associates, a multispecialty group based in Massachusetts and subsidiary of Partners Healthcare.
As a clinician, Dr. Hedgepeth manages patients with coronary artery disease, cardiomyopathies, congestive heart failure and cardiac arrhythmias. Dr. Hedgepeth’s research focuses on the mechanisms of arrhythmic death after myocardial infarction. His research has been published in cardiovascular journals, including Circulation and Journal of American College of Cardiology.
